Control

God is our refuge and strength, always ready to help in times of trouble. So we will not fear when earthquakes come and the mountains crumble into the sea. Let the oceans roar and foam. Let the mountains tremble as the waters surge!
—Psalm 46:1-3 (NLT)

When you really think about it, what is a “good” or “bad” person? A person can be a good boss, but a bad friend; a good dad, but a bad uncle. “Good” and “bad” are usually subjective labels shared by each individual person’s perspective. But good things still can happen to “good and bad” people; just like bad things can still happen to “good and bad” people. Whether “good or bad,” no one is exempt from having blessings, as well as challenges, stir up in their life from time to time. How do you respond when challenges arise?

Remember that the need for control is typically a speedy journey to unnecessary stress. It is better to sometimes cue the song “Let It Be,” by the Beatles! When the song says “there will be an answer,” remember that that answer does not necessarily have to always come from you. Self-control is the best type of control to aim for during this life. Self-control includes knowing when to say, “that’s okay,” “it’ll be alright,” “I’m not going to worry about it,” or “God is in control.”

God is your refuge, strength, and very present help during troubled times. The writer of today’s psalm verses said, “Let the oceans roar and foam. Let the mountains tremble as the waters surge!” This was a person who was basically saying to his challenges, “Bring it on. I will not be bothered.” That is what it looks like to trust in God. When God is in your boat, you do not have to be overcome by worry or stress. He will protect you, give you the grace to endure, and/or show you the wisdom of how to maneuver. Know that you do not have to fear when challenges arise. God is in control and His plans for you are good.

Lots of Love, XO
