Real Love

Real Love speaks the truth. Why? Because God is truth and that’s what will set us free. Lies and deception keep us bound. In this society it is becoming harder to tell someone that something they believe in or they are doing is wrong.

Many say truth is relative. And there are those people that call good Evil and evil good. Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter! Isaiah 5:19-21

Read the following excerpt from: KEEPER OF THE STARS

“Dana could you please turn that music down?” Marissa pleaded to the young dental hygienist blasting the radio from her PT Cruiser as she sat in the parking lot of Dr. Zakhne’s office.

After turning the volume down a few decibels, Dana said, “I apologize Marissa. I always listen to this CD on the way to work. And sometimes I get carried away and don’t realize how loud I’ve got it on. But you’d like it if you listened to it. They’re a Christian group who plays all kinds of music. Jazz, rock, hip-hop. I love them! Do you want a copy of it?” she offered, climbing out of her car and shutting the door.

Marissa thought quickly, ‘O Lord how do I answer her? I don’t want to offend her but…I can’t say yes either. Speak the truth in love. I wish it was easier.’ “No thanks. It’s not my kind of music.”

“Why? It’s Christian gospel. And it’s full of spirit.” As they walked in unison to the door, she told the young woman, “I don’t mean to offend you Dana but I don’t believe that music is a godly kind. God’s music is harmonious and you’re supposed to be able to identify a melody in it. And it’s not harsh sounding and is meant to draw people closer to God in worship. Do you see what I’m trying to say?”

Rolling her eyes, and frowning deeply, she replied, “We’re all allowed to have our own opinion.”

Recognizing the expression on her co-worker’s face, Marissa knew that she would give her the cold shoulder for at least the next day or two. Moaning to herself, she entered the office behind Dana. Next, as she began arranging her desk, she sent a silent prayer for grace and patience for the day ahead.

Then she began ruminating on other similar situations. ‘Why did Caleb’s face just flash into my mind? Maybe it’s because my co-worker and my brother seem to have a lot in common. They both act like my beliefs…or opinions as they would call them…are outdated or judgmental. Of course Ted outdid them both. His label for me was a religious fanatic who’d lost her mind. He couldn’t see, or wouldn’t admit, the dramatic change that had taken place in my life…in my soul when you changed it forever Jesus.

The above selection is from my book 'Keeper of the Stars'. It’s a Christian, southern fiction novel that I hope will touch the hearts of those who read it. You can check it out by reading another sample at the kindle section of Amazon.com. It comes in paperback too. A short non-fiction book for youth 10 and older 'How To Really Be Street Smart' is available also. You can check it out on My Books page and at Amazon.com.
