And the truth shall set you free! John 8:32

2Ch 5:13  It came even to pass, as the trumpeters and singers were as one, to make one sound to be heard in praising and thanking the LORD; and when they lifted up their voice with the trumpets and cymbals and instruments of musick, and praised the LORD, saying, For he is good; for his mercy endureth for ever: that then the house was filled with a cloud, even the house of the LORD;

I think we can all agree that music has power and can influence humans in certain ways and on specific levels. Haven't we all been 'moved' in some way by it? So how much do we really understand about how it affects us? Let's first look at some definitions for music

Web-vocal or instrumental sounds (or both) combined in such a way as to produce beauty of form, harmony, and expression of emotion.
Merriam Webster- the science or art of ordering tones or sounds in succession, in combination, and in temporal relationships to produce a composition having unity and continuity
Dictionary.com- an art of sound in time that expresses ideas and emotions in significant forms through the elements of rhythm, melody, harmony, and color.

From the above information we can summarize that music has the elements of melody, harmony, and rhythm- and often with lyrics (words set to a melody). And it affects the mind and emotions of the listener. Lets discuss rhythm. Music was created to synchronize with a humans internal body rhythms-  pulse, respiration, and blood pressure. From its origin God meant for it to be played and sung according to these natural laws.

And music and Song are beautifully flowing and and emotionally and spiritually uplifting when played and listened to within His guide lines. Unfortunately Satan always slithers onto the scene and spreads his subtle poison, attempting to taint God's creation in any way he is able. Just as he uses mankind to manipulate the human language he uses them to manipulate the language of music. God is not the author of confusion. Think for a moment. Is the music you listen to moving you closer to Jesus Christ or further away from Him? Is your spirit free in Jesus or bound by Satan?

When we listen to a song we should not be confused as to what its message is. I love the well known song 'Amazing Grace ' which is familiar to people around the world. Yet, several years ago I heard a modern version of this iconic song. Since I have only minimal knowledge of chords, rhythm, or music composition, I can only explain what I thought and felt while listening to it. The words that came to mind were 'definitely different', 'strange', and 'not the Amazing Grace I know and love'. The music added worldliness and took away the essence of what the song is all about-glorifying a Mighty God.

Verses about song and unity.

Chronicles 5:12  Also the Levites which were the singers, all of them of Asaph, of Heman, of Jeduthun, with their sons and their brethren, being arrayed in white linen, having cymbals and psalteries and harps, stood at the east end of the altar, and with them an hundred and twenty priests sounding with trumpets:)

Job 38:7  When the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy?

 Revelation 5:9  And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation;
