GREATNESS IS ALL BY GRACE

Text: Ecclesiastes 9:11

"I returned and saw under the sun that the race is not for swift, nor the battle for the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, but time and chance happeneth to them all" (Ecclesiastes 9:11).

Man's greatness is just a tip of the ice berg or just a token of God's unquantifiable riches of grace. Those who are proud of their greatness do not understand the source of greatness and unfortunately, do not acknowledge the true owner of all they have. If Herod had known that he wouldn't have attributed greatness to himself when he was hailed by those sycophants who equated him with God after he made a great speech. He paid dearly for his error and arrogance as he died instantly and was eaten up by worms. From today's text, it is clear that achievements and positions in life are all by grace.  Higher Everyday For Today - W.F.

Joseph, in Egypt, understood this well when he told his brethren that all that happened to him was to fulfill God's purpose. Therefore, rising from prison to become a prime minister, brought him no pride. The exhortation to avoid pride of life is still in force and you are enjoined to live humbly knowing fully well that God resists the proud but gives grace to the humble.
