The problem of hating people of color

Do you know what’s the problem of Hating people of color?  Well, one of many, actually.  So, so many.  But if you’re a regular here, you should know what’s going on with that question.  In “the problem of …” articles, I often write about things that might keep someone who claims to be Christian from entering Heaven.  On this site, that generally means things we love so much here on earth that we’d rather try to hang on to them than go to Heaven.  But this one’s the other way around.

Usually, I save that stuff for my other site – which god saves.  But as I was doing some maintenance on this site today, this question came to mind.  And I feel like I should ask it here.  In general, it’s a question for white people who consider themselves to be Christians.  While things finally may be turning here in the U.S. and even around the world, there are still too many people who have issues with people who are black, brown – something other than their own skin color.

So let’s just get to it.  One of the problems with hating people of color is that we are all created by God.  Every single one of us.  No exceptions.  None.  Period.

When Jesus tells us His Greatest Commandment, I know every true Christian will agree with it.

The Greatest Commandment – Matthew

22:34-40 pp — Mk 12:28-31

Mt 22:34 Hearing that Jesus had silenced the Sadducees, the Pharisees got together. 35 One of them, an expert in the law, tested him with this question: 36 “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?”

Mt 22:37 Jesus replied: “ ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ 40 All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”

Yeah – Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and Love your neighbor as yourself.

And as every true Christian also knows – every single person out there is our neighbor.  No exceptions.  None.  Period.

So think about this when you start to hate any one of God’s people – no matter their skin color – you are hating someone God cares about very deeply.

Is that the mark of a true Christian?

No!  It’s not.

So it’s time to look in the mirror and ask the person you see there – am I a Christian on my way to Heaven?  Or am I a hater, who would rather hate than enter Heaven?

It’s your choice.

I’ve made mine.  I hope I’ll see you in Heaven with the rest of us that really believe and try our hardest to act like Jesus wants us to.  Who love our neighbors.
