It appears the American president is beginning to take the issue of impeachment seriously. This is probably because Mr Trump is not unaware that his political opponents are determined to have their way as they continue to scan the politician's political journey so far. This is in order to ferret out more incriminating steps that the president might have taken.





Until now, Mr president has dismissed attempts to remove him as a witch-hunt. However, not any more as he has reined in his bravura and started working on how best to defend himself. A new front has therefore been opened in the war against the move to sack the president.





The arrowhead and commanding officer of the new war front is none other than Steve Bannon, the president's former White House Chief Strategist.

Each day at 9am, a group of Trump's allies, friends and former staffers gather in Bannon’s Washington townhouse to broadcast a radio show and podcast that seeks to demolish the Democratic case for impeachment.





At “Breitbart embassy” — the hardline conservative news website, where Bannon was formerly executive chairman — the former White House Chief Strategist conducts the show.




In favour of the president is a group of Republican senators who seem to have acknowledged that Trump might have pressured Ukraine over the Bidens. However, they emphasised that his behaviour did not rise close to the level of “high crimes and misdemeanours” that the US constitution deems impeachable.

Nevertheless, the president must be nervous at the prospect of a possible testimony by John Bolton. Trump’s former national security adviser, who left the White House on bad terms in September, is scheduled to testify on Thursday.
