MANCHESTER, MANAGERIAL RIVALRY AND FAILED EXPECTATIONS

GUARDIOLA AND MOURINHO LOCK HORNS AGAIN

It is not for nothing that both were regarded as two of the greatest managers in the world.  Therefore, when Jose Mourinho and Pep Guardiola were hired by Manchester United and Manchester City respectively at the start of the season, they were expected to light up the Premier League.  Other managers were meant to pick up the crumbs here and there.
However, with about three weeks to the end of the season, it can be said that both managers have failed to live up to the hype.


Both Manchester clubs are languishing in fifth and sixth places respectively on the league table.  Both managers are fighting to make sure that their clubs, at worst, finish in the top four in order to be sure of Champions League football next season.  Hence, all roads lead to the Etihad this evening as both managers resume hostilities.
