Tags: love spirit fruit

Theme Scripture: Galatians 5:22-23

"But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law."
This lesson is an overview of the next 9 lessons. The next 9 lessons will be an in-depth study to each of the Fruit of the Spirit. What are the fruit of the Spirit, first of all? The fruit of the Spirit is the characteristics and/or attributes that every believer should exhibit. When we are born naturally, we take on the attributes of our parents. As in the natural, so in the spiritually. When we are born of the Spirit, we are adopted into the family of God and therefore take on the attributes of the Spirit. The Fruit of the Spirit are qualities and attributes which the Spirit has which should also be exhibited in the believer. There are nine fruit of the Spirit listed in Galatians 5: 22-23:
Love: When we are talking about Love, we are not talking about the Eros (sexual  and/or lustful) love. We are also not talking about the love which loves someone to get something out of it or a love which is based on emotions. We are talking about the Agape love. It is selfless love. Agape love says "I love you just the way you are. No strings attached. I want to see the best in you. I want to see you succeed." Agape love is the love of Jesus. It loves you because it loves you. You cannot love without God (we will explain this in the next lesson).
Joy: There is a difference between joy and happiness. Happiness is temporary. You could be happy today and depressed tomorrow. However, joy is eternal. It can only be found in Jesus. The world cannot give joy nor take it away. It is an everlasting feeling of jubilance.
Peace: Peace is freedom from disturbance. Well, disturbance of what? Disturbance of sin. Sin disturbs are relationship with God. Therefore, when we receive the peace with God, our relationship with him is not disturbed. There are two types of peace: the peace of God and the peace with God. This will be explained in the lessons to come.
Longsuffering: When you separate longsuffering, you get two (2) words: long and suffering. Therefore, longsuffering is the ability to enduring suffering and persecution for a long period of time; the ability to be patient in times of trouble, especially trouble caused by others.
Gentleness: Gentleness is kindness. It is the quality of mild-mannered and tender.
Goodness: Goodness refers to the moral qualities which a person has which makes them "good"; A well-mannered, virtuous person of noble character.
Faith: Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen (Hebrews 11:1). Faith is the anatomy of  things which we pray for, and is the proof that what we are praying for will be answered.
Meekness: Meekness is being humble, in a sense. Meekness is submissiveness. In order for you to be submissive (especially to the will and way of God), you must be humble.
Temperance: Temperance is self-restraint/self-control. We must discipline ourselves ( physically and spiritually), so that we will obtain the prize which Christ offers to those who spiritually discipline themselves.
