Seek the things Above

Tags: christ seek sins

During Holy Week I shared some short devotionals with our church on some of the truths of what the death & resurrection of Jesus accomplish for those who trust in Him. As they are always relevant I thought I’d share them with you this week. All the prayers are taken from Fount of Heaven.

Monday: Forgiveness for sins
Tuesday: Freedom from sin
Wednesday: Peace with God
Thursday: Living Hope
Friday: No condemnation & one who intercedes
Saturday: Set your minds on Christ

Christ takes our sins, stands in our place, receives the punishment our sins deserved and by offering a pure once and for all sacrifice provides the means by which the Father will forgive us our sins. We are forgiven, set free, at peace, with a new eternal and living hope. We no longer live under condemnation AND Jesus intercedes on our behalf, standing with us and for us. So if all that is true, and it is, what should we do? Colossians 3:1 tells us, because Christ has been raised, then we too have been raised with him so our natural home now is where Christ is, to Seek those things, to seek that kingdom, to seek Christ is now our great privilege and joy. And as we do we find the possibility of transformation, as God renews our minds (Rom 12:1) and find that we are lifted out from our anxieties, fears, worries, sins, habits and are drawn into a new life with Christ.

Prayer

Lord, let us stretch our mind toward heaven – and let us be held fast by that desire. Let us clothe ourselves with spiritual fire, and let us be equipped with it’s flame.

John Chrysostom
