The Return Of Rain

Tags: rain living

We got Rain last week for the first time in something like a hundred days.  Three months with no rain.

It did not seem like a lot as most of it was over Summer but by part way through September it started to feel weird.  Or off.  Or something.

We got lucky here and the first rain we had was light, allowing the ground to hopefully adjust rather than slough off the water and flood.  Once the next rains came I found myself noticing how long it had been due to noticing.

By that I mean that I NOTICED the rain.  The noise it made on my windows.  And I found myself slightly irritated.

I found that I had forgotten all the habits that come with Living in a rainy climate.  Carrying an umbrella for example.  Yes, I had a rain coat on (and layers are still too warm right now) but I still didn't think to bring an umbrella and so walked home in the rain from an appointment last week.  Not the end of the world, but a reminder that after a hundred plus days without rain I fell out of the habits I've built over a lifetime of living in the Pacific North Wet.

I got new tires (snow tires to be frank) at the start of October, so I'm happy to say that driving has been fine these 'slippery' days, but yeah, it's been interesting to notice the things I forgot about living in a rainy area.  Rain makes noise.  Rain is wet.  Rain brings darker skies.

It's the noise that I'm noticing most of all.... go figure.
