Yesterday, St. Jago High School (St. Jago) from the parish of St. Catherine, was up against Kingston College (KC) from the parish of Kingston, Jamaica, in the finals of Television Jamaica's School Challenge Quiz.

[Schools' Challenge Quiz (SCQ) is an annual competition put on by Television Jamaica (TVJ - one of Jamaica's two free-to-air television stations), whereby which High School students compete in a 3-round quiz competition for cash and prizes and the title of "Schools Challenge Quiz Champion".

High School students are quizzed on subjects studied at the 4th and 5th form levels in high schools across the island...namely Math, English Language, English Literature and the Sciences].

Yesterday's match was close, up until the 3rd and final round, when St. Jago beat KC, 39 to 19 points.

(At the end of round 1, St. Jago had 7 points to KC's 8. Whilst at the end of Round 2, St. Jago had 29 points to KC's 25).

The winners and runners-up won several prizes from SCQ sponsors including scholarships, sponsorships of breakfast programs at these schools, trips and adventure tours from tour companies.

We want to say a big congratulations to St. Jago  for winning Schools Challenge Quiz for 2019.

To KC, we say, well tried. We hope that you will learn from this experience and bring those lessons to bear in 2020, so that you can be champions again!

Yesterday also marked the 50th Anniversary of SCQ. They introduced an app called SCQ Ultimate (on the App Store and Google Play Store), which allows individuals and teams to compete against each other and the app in a Schools Challenge Quiz-like format.
