Opening odds for the Detroit Lions Week 8 game against the Las Vegas Raiders on “Monday Night Football.”

The Detroit Lions are back home in Week 8 taking on the Las Vegas Raiders on “Monday Night Football” at Ford Field.

Despite the Lions (5-2) struggling on the road in Baltimore in Week 7, the Raiders (3-4) loss to the lowly Bears was also equally unimpressive, and that has led to the folks over at DraftKings setting the line at Lions -7.5 points.

In the Lions' loss, they only managed to muster 6 points, which ended a 15-game streak of them scoring at least 20 points. Meanwhile, the Raiders have only scored 20 or more points in a game once this season and only produced 12 against the Bears, with six coming in the final minute of the game.

“Explosive plays are few and far between for the Silver & Black and that is often pointed to as a reason for the sluggish offense through six games,” Ray Aspuria of SB Nation’s Radiers site, Silver and Black Pride wrote. “Yes, the side of the ball (Raiders coach Josh) McDaniels directly oversees has yet to generate more than 20 points this season. When the Raiders did finally surpass the 20-point plateau, it was the defense that scored the two points (a safety) get to the team over that hump.”

On paper, the Raiders actually have several talented offensive skill players, but they struggled in several areas. After leading the NFL in rushing in 2022, Josh Jacobs is averaging just 2.9 yards per carry in 2023, logging a total of 347 rushing yards on 118 carries through seven games. They have three solid receivers and two good tight ends, but their quarterbacks have been unable to consistently get them involved. Starting quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo has thrown more interceptions than touchdowns (7 TDs, 8 INTs), and his backup Brian Hoyer (0 TDs, 2 INTs) was benched in favor of rookie Aidan O’Connell (1 TDs, 2 INTs).

Their biggest detriment to their overall success though, definitely seems to be the coaching of McDaniels. From questionable decision-making, to goofy play calls, player mismanagement, and overall lack of success (a 9-15 record coaching the Raiders), Raiders fans are not only calling for him to be fired but have even started a petition to get the attention of ownership.

Monday night can’t get here soon enough.
