Dunbar not in Lions’ immediate plans, as team mulls CB options

Keep an eye on Daryl Worley for a potential promotion.

On Monday, the Detroit Lions placed CB Jeff Okudah on injured reserve, but now three days later they have yet to fill his vacated roster spot, and they’re not in any rush to do so either.

“I think right now we’re just – we’re kind of holding right now,” coach Dan Campbell said at Thursday’s press conference. “We’re in a holding pattern and see where we might need a spot. We’re not in any hurry to do anything.”

Earlier in the week, it was rumored that the Lions may potentially be bringing back veteran CB Quinton Dunbar, who was with this team at the beginning of training camp but took an excused absence after his uncle passed away. Eventually, Dunbar was released. But it doesn't appear Dunbar is in the team’s immediate plans according to Campbell:

“Yeah, I mean, we had contact with him (Dunbar), but that’s not our intentions right now.”

Instead, the Lions may actually look in-house for more cornerback depth options, and Campbell specifically mentioned Daryl Worley, who was signed to the practice squad on Wednesday, as an option.

“We signed Daryl Worley to our practice squad,” Campbell continued. “All things are on the table right now. So, there’s a chance he can go to the game. But, there again, he just walked in the door. So, I’m not going to say that he is until we really get a good look at him and let him kind of process what we do defensively.”

Worley (6-foot-1, 205 pounds) has played in 66 NFL games, starting 54 of them, and could fill a much-needed depth role if the Lions deem him ready to play.

With the Lions playing on “Monday Night Football” this week, they have an extra day to decide on their best path, but it’s possible the team doesn’t make a roster move until Sunday.
