Allen Robinson gets a friend.

Detroit Lions fans aren’t able to pick fun at many teams in the NFL, but the closest neighbor they can tease is easily the Chicago Bears. The the past three years, they’ve been a team that has been so close to be a true competitor, yet have been clearly one quarterback away.

Both head coach Matt Nagy and general manager Ryan Pace have worn out their welcome after failing to make Mitchell Trubisky their guy, and their acquisition of Andy Dalton sure hasn’t inspired much confidence in the Windy City.

So let’s kick Pace to the curb in our Pride of Detroit Community Mock Draft. Instead, traitor commenter twon82 is now the acting general manager of our favorite rivals to hate.

With the 20th pick in the 2021 Pod Community Mock Draft, the Chicago Bears select LSU WR Terrace Marshall Jr.

This is a very tough selection because there are a few different prospects that the Bears could use that are still available here. With Kyle Fuller’s release, it is very tempting to pick up his potential replacement in someone like Greg Newsome II and feel great about it. However, they just picked up Desmond Trufant and have a young Jaylon Johnson on the other side. So, I see them focusing elsewhere in the first round.

The offensive line could also use work and there is great value in an Alijah Vera-Tucker or Teven Jenkins here to help shore up the line and keep Andy Dalton (and their future franchise guy they hope to find) protected.

But for me, one of the biggest question marks for the Bears is wide receiver. Though they tagged Allen Robinson, one of the best receivers in the game, it seems like he’s going to want to leave the Windy City after this year. The Bears could use a guy who can develop into their featured receiver and is a great route runner who can create separation, which is something they’ve had trouble finding for years aside from Robinson.

Enter WR Terrace Marshall Jr., who had a breakout year when he wasn’t in the shadow of Justin Jefferson and Ja’Marr Chase. Something worth noting is that he still hauled in double-digit TDs in a season behind them. Marshall has proven that he can play anywhere on the field and be dominant while possessing exceptional size and physical route-running. His physical play also gives him YAC value that shouldn’t go overlooked either.

If the Bears can somehow convince Robinson to stay after this season, they would have an incredibly dynamic receiving duo and a solid RB in David Montgomery that could attract a real franchise QB1 to town if they don’t just go find them in the 2022 draft.

Erik Schlitt’s thoughts:

The Bears appear very aware they have an issue at wide receiver. Robinson isn’t happy about being franchise tagged, rumors are Anthony Miler is available via trade, and that’s probably why they got in on the Kenny Golladay sweepstakes. I do expect Marshall, Kadarius Toney (Florida), and Rashod Bateman (Minnesota) to be in the second wave of wide receivers considered and all should be in the first round mix.

Marshall could very well be the wide receiver of the future for the Bears, but for me, it would be real hard to pass on Vera-Tucker and Newsome, as they represent excellent value here. Vera-Tucker is an instant starter at guard, and while Newman has Trufant ahead of him, the extra time to learn could do the young corner wonders for his development—it’s not easy for rookie corners in the NFL.
