Injury report: Tyrell Crosby returns to practice; Stafford, Golladay still out

The Lions offensive line is healthier, but key players remain out.

The Detroit Lions returned to Practice on Wednesday, heading inside to prepare for Sunday’s finale against the Minnesota Vikings. While we already know the Vikings will be missing a key piece with Dalvin Cook already ruled out for Sunday, it’s still not clear how the Lions will approach Week 17.

Quarterback Matthew Stafford is now dealing with three different injuries after suffering an ankle sprain on Saturday against the Buccaneers. Stafford missed Wednesday’s practice, and interim head coach Darrell Bevell said it’s something they’ll just monitor throughout the week.

“Some of the other injuries are resolving, so we’ll see how this Injury on his ankle resolves as well by the end of the week,” Bevell said.

Bevell also said that if Stafford can’t go, veteran Chase Daniel will start.

One key piece that doesn’t seem likely to return in wide receiver Kenny Golladay. He remains out of practice, and still hasn’t played since Week 8 against the Colts. Golladay’s hip injury never landed him on injured reserve, leading many to believe he suffered a setback, but Bevell said the team is going to keep him on the roster for now, due to specific ramifications of placing him on IR.

“There’s more that goes into being able to put him on IR and particularly putting him on IR at the end of the season,” Bevell said. “So, there’s conversation about that. I don’t think in the last three weeks that you can just put him on IR. There are ramifications for that. So, right now we’re continuing to keep him on the roster.”

As for some good news, swing backup tackle Tyrell Crosby returned to practice after missing the past two weeks with an ankle injury. Combined with center Frank Ragnow being limited for the second-straight practice, it appears the Lions offensive line may be getting healthy for the finale. Per Bevell, Ragnow nearly returned last week.

“He was close at the end of the week,” Bevell said. “He got a little bit of limited practice, so we’ll continue in that vein with him this week as well, just limited and see how far we can progress him as we get toward the end of the week.”

Here’s a look at the Lions’ first injury report of the week.

LB Jamie Collins Sr. (neck) - No practice
G Joe Dahl (back) - No practice
WR Kenny Golladay (hip) - No practice
QB Matthew Stafford (thumb/rib/ankle) - No practice
