Kizer would join Chase Daniel and David Blough in the backup quarterback battle.

The Detroit Lions will work out former Green Bay Packers and Cleveland Browns Quarterback Deshone Kizer on Thursday, per a report by ESPN’s Field Yates.

Backup quarterback has become a very important position for the Detroit Lions. Between Jeff Driskel and David Blough, backup quarterbacks started in eight games for the team last season. While Stafford should be at full health to start this year, the 0-8 record earned without him last season has to have convinced the team to invest more into the position.

The Lions already signed Chase Daniel — who started eight games for the Chicago Bears over the last two seasons — to a three year deal worth $13 million. Now Kizer may have a chance to compete for a role as well.

Kizer was drafted by the Cleveland Browns in the second round of the 2017 draft. He started 15 games for the team in 2017, losing all of them en route to an 0-16 season; Kizer threw 22 interceptions that season. He spent 2018 with the Packers, featuring in three games. He did not feature in his 2019 stint with the Oakland Raiders.

UPDATE:

Albert Breer of MMQB reports that wide receivers Lee Morris and A.J. Taylor worked out with the team as well on Thursday.
