Former Detroit Lions 2nd-round pick Teez Tabor waived from 49ers

The former Lions draft pick will have to find yet another home.

Teez Tabor was released from the Detroit Lions last year in one of the last rounds of roster cuts. That was just two years removed from when Detroit took him with their second-round pick back in 2017.

A month later, Tabor was added to the San Francisco 49ers practice squad, watching as his team made it all the way to the Super Bowl. It was potentially a new start for the busted corner, sharing a locker room with future Hall of Famer Richard Sherman. San Francisco even re-signed him this year.

Unfortunately for Tabor, it looks like his football career will have to continue elsewhere. On Monday, the 49ers waived Tabor with a non-football injury designation, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.

There’s no report yet on what is ailing Tabor, but it appears his time in San Francisco is over before training camp even hit. Though not a free agent immediately, it seems unlikely he’ll be claimed on waivers, as he wasn’t when the Lions put him on waivers a year ago.
