Calvin Johnson spent over an hour detailing his career from childhood to retirement.

On Wednesday night, former Detroit Lions All-Pro receiver Calvin Johnson joined former Detroit Lions safety Glover Quin in a video interview via Quin’s YouTube channel, “The DB Room.”

Over the past few weeks, Quin has brought on several former (and current) Lions players to talk about their childhood, how they made it to the NFL and the obstacles they’ve overcome to get where they are today.

This episode was no different, as Quin got Johnson to talk about growing up in Newnan, Georgia, his relationship with his parent, and working his way up through high school into college and the pros.

And don’t worry, if you’re expecting Johnson to throw more shade at the Lions organization, Quin specifically said he had no interest in putting that negativity out there. This was about getting to know Calvin Johnson better and nothing else.

“I don’t like talking about no B.S.,” Quin said at the top of the interview. “I’m not here to talk about all the nonsense, and I’m going to say to this to the fans that was asking those questions, none of y’all’s questions got picked asking me about the organization or none of that stuff. That’s not what we’re here to talk about. We’re here to inspire.”

So, instead, we got a lot of interesting stories about Johnson’s life. Like the fact that he couldn’t catch early in his career and was actually called “Butterfingers” by teammates back in high school or that Ken Griffey Jr. was his idol growing up or how Lions wide receiver coach Shawn Jefferson was key in making him not good, but great—and the overall importance of good, motivating coaches.

Of course, the topic of his retirement came up, too, but Johnson made no parting shots at the Lions.

“It sucks not being able to be healthy and be out there and play against people,” Johnson said. “And not to say everybody’s 100 percent healthy, but you know when you’re playing a leg down. You know when you can’t get it, you can’t dig, and it got to that point for me.”

The whole interview is definitely worth checking out if you’re interested in getting to know one of the greatest Lions player as a person without any of the franchise drama.

(Skip to the 20-minute mark, as Quin dealt with some technological issues up top)
