The Lions have a new offensive lineman.

The Detroit Lions have had to deal with a ton of injuries on the offensive line over the past couple weeks. They’ve sent Joe Dahl—and most recently—Kenny Wiggins to injured reserve. Starting right tackle Rick Wagner missed last week’s game, shoving reserve tackle Tyrell Crosby into the starting lineup.

With just two games remaining, the Lions have added one player who could help fill some depth out. According to Ian Rapoport, the Lions have claimed offensive lineman Caleb Benenoch off of waivers.

Benenoch was cut by the Dallas Cowboys on Saturday after spending a couple weeks on the roster. He has also previously spent time with the Patriots (duh) and three season with the Buccaneers.

A former fifth-round draft pick, Benenoch has started 22 games over four season at multiple positions, including both guard spots and right tackle.

In Detroit, he’ll likely slide in as depth behind the Lions’ new presumed starter at left guard Oday Aboushi. Aside from Aboushi, the only healthy guards on the roster prior to claiming Benenoch were Graham Glasgow and undrafted rookie Beau Benzschawel.

The Lions have now confirmed this transaction, along with the placement of Wiggins and Mike Daniels on IR. Detroit still has one more roster spot open this week, a spot that could be filled by Kerryon Johnson, should the team decide to bring him back from IR this week.
