Detroit Lions sign DT Darius Kilgo

The Lions have more Nose Tackle Depth now.

The post-draft roster building has begun for the Detroit Lions. On Thursday morning, the team announced they have signed free agent defensive Tackle Darius Kilgo.

Kilgo was a 2015 sixth-round pick for the Denver Broncos. In two years with Denver, Kilgo made 18 game appearances and tallied 11 tackles.

From there, he did the rounds of Bill Belichick-influenced defenses, as both the Patriots and Titans looked to Kilgo as potential nose tackle depth. He didn’t play a down for New England, spending most of his time on the practice squad.

Last year, however, he made 11 game appearances for the Titans, logging 131 defensive snaps, but only five tackles and a PFF grade of 63.2.

At 6-foot-3, 320 pounds, Kilgo’s role for the Lions is clear. He is depth behind Damon Harrison Sr. He should compete with the likes of seventh-round pick PJ Johnson and John Atkins for a spot on the roster.

The Lions also announced a pair of corresponding releases. Running back Kerwynn Williams has been cut and offensive tackle Jarron Jones was waived.
