Thursday open thread: What players should the Lions avoid in the first round of draft?

Which players are you hoping the Lions don’t draft in the first round this year?

On Wednesday, Todd McShay’s Mock Draft 3.0 was a good reminder that there plenty of unpopular opinions about the 2018 NFL Draft out there. As of Wednesday night, 90 percent of Detroit Lions Fans gave his selection of offensive tackle Connor Williams a “D” or “F.”

By now, plenty of Lions fans have expressed their deepest desires for the 20th overall pick. Harold Landry, Vita Vea and Derrius Guice seem to be among hte most popular choices for the Lions’ first-round pick.

But let’s turn our focus to players you absolutely want the Lions to Avoid with their first pick in the draft. We now have just about all of the information we’ll get from the 2018 prospects, so surely there are players you’re hoping won’t get their name called when the Lions are on the clock. So today’s Question of the Day is:

Which first-round prospect are you hoping the Lions absolutely avoid in the first round?

My answer: I’ll be honest, I just really don’t want the Lions to draft a running back in the first round. I don’t care if Guice is available or Roland Jones or Sony Michel. The running back class is deep, and the Lions have more pressing needs.

There will almost certainly be an offensive or defensive linemen worthy of the pick at 20, and if there isn’t, try like hell to trade down. I think it would be a drastic mistake to go skill position in the first round given this team’s needs in the trenches, specifically on the defensive side of the ball.

Your turn.
