Aaron Rodgers medically cleared to play

The Green Bay Packers All Pro quarterback is free to play.

It’s official. Aaron Rodgers has been medically cleared to return to play. The Green Bay Packers quarterback made the annoucement via Instagram late on Tuesday night:

It's been a long road from that day to this, but I'm happy to say I've been medically cleared to return. Thanks for all the love, support, prayers, and well wishes over the past 8 weeks ❤️ and a big thank you to Dr McKenzie and our incredible training staff. #riseagain #

“It’s been a long road from that day to this, but I’m happy to say I’ve been medically cleared to return,” Rodgers wrote in the Instagram post.

Rodgers remains on injured reserve for the time being, but he’s eligible to come off on Friday, and at this point, it looks like that’s when it will happen. If so, he’ll certainly start this week against the Carolina Panthers.

The Packers are in a very similar situation as the Detroit Lions right now. In order to make the postseason, they will likely have to win out and get some help from other NFC teams. Unlike the Lions, the Packers have some tough games ahead. Here are their three remaining games:

  • at Panthers
  • vs. Vikings
  • at Lions

With Rodgers back in the picture, I wouldn’t count them out of any of those games. That being said, Rodgers is going to need a lot more help from his supporting cast if they truly want to be a contender down the stretch.

For the Lions, it means that Rodgers could very well be the starting quarterback in Week 17. Green Bay may be out of the playoff race by then, but Rodgers is a competitor, and there’s a good chance he’ll play regardless of the Packers’ playoff chances.
