Lions roster cuts: DT Caushaud Lyons, S Rolan Milligan waived

The Lions have cut two more defensive players

The Detroit Lions continued their cuts Saturday afternoon, releasing two more defensive players. According to the Detroit Free Press, defensive tackle Caushaud Lyons has been waived. Per ESPN’s Michael Rothstein, safety Rolan Milligan has also been cut.

Lyons was a late addition to Detroit, joining the team just a week ago. The Lions put in a claim for him after the Rams waived him.

In the preseason finale, Lyons tallied two tackles in 39 snaps, which wasn’t enough to justify a Roster spot. If the Lions liked what they saw in him, he is practice squad eligible, and Detroit could use the extra bodies at defensive tackle.

Milligan, the young safety out of Toledo, was added to the Lions roster back in February. After a brief stint on the PUP list, Milligan became a pretty regular contributor in the preseason. In three games, he racked up seven tackles and had the game-sealing interception against the Jets.

But Milligan never had much of a chance to make the team’s final roster. With the emergence of guys like Charles Washington and Alex Carter, Milligan would have had to beat some serious odds to land on the 53-man roster. Milligan could still wind up on the practice squad if the Lions liked what they saw in him.
