Lions-Bills recap: Who gets the game ball?

Who was the Lions’ player of the game vs. the Bills?

It was a second-straight ugly game for the Detroit Lions, but thankfully it was just second, third and fourth-string players out there. Still, we have committed to giving a game ball in every single game this season and that includes boring Preseason finales.

Before we get to this week’s candidates, here are the Preseason Game Ball standings through three games:

Chris Spielman - 3
Kenny Golladay - 3
Rolan Milligan - 3
Jake Rudock - 3
Akeem Spence - 2
A’Shawn Robinson - 2
Marvin Jones Jr. - 1
Ameer Abdullah - 1

Now onto this week’s nominees.

The away uniforms

This was our first look at the away uniforms in action and, boy did they look good.

I was admittedly skeptical of the white jersey-blue pants combination at first, but I was completely wrong. Especially after dealing with the number issues for the home jerseys, these away uniforms were a welcome addition and pleasant on the eyes. Good job, Lions wardrobe department.

Matt Prater

He made a 53-yard field goal. That may have been the biggest accomplishment of the game for Detroit.

Tion Green

The Lions have struggled to develop a running game all offseason, but Green gave it signs of life in the final preseason game. Green looked shifty and had decent vision all game. He finished with a team-high 63 yards rushing on eight carries (7.9 YPC). Green also hit on a 35-yard rush, the longest run of the Lions’ preseason.

But his biggest highlight came late in the game. Green took a pedestrian looking screen pass and turned it into the highlight of the preseason for the Lions. Green shuffled past defender after defender on his way to a 74-yard score.

That’s all you’re going to get from us tonight: three candidates.
