Lovin’ on My American Tribe

Social media can play this cruel joke on us sometimes, that has us thinking that human interaction of laughing or talking or sharing can be replaced with a ‘like’ or a ‘share’. This past Trip to America as reminded me the value of sipping a cup of coffee with a friend for hours or having a brunch that lasts for hours….all in the name of being present and soaking up the love. Our technology was silent, and we were simply (and wonderfully) present.

These are the friends that I have known and loved for over a decade. Friends that I have cheered with, cried with, celebrated milestones with.

These are some of my people. This is just part of my tribe.

And spending (even brief but sweet) time, reminds me how lucky beyond belief for my Tribe.

My tribe of strong and brave and intelligent friends, from different backgrounds and corners of the Pacific Northwest, who continually inspire me… Whether I am in Wales or I am sharing brunch or happy hour.

These are the friends who quieted my fears when I shared nerves on my new job. Who had the simple response of,”Girl, you’ve got this.” And you know what? Hearing that from friends who I have known for easily 15 years it helps to boost that confidence just a bit more as I transition into a new role in a brand new field.

During this trip, I have hugged and snuggled babies, FaceTime with friends in California, had brunch that lasted for hours, recounted countless memories while making new ones.

YAAAASSSS!

This is just what I needed, to clear the cobwebs and make a fresh start for my new role.

(Which happens to start tomorrow, and it feels like a first day of school… gathering favorite supplies, planning my outfit and packing my lunch. So, silly I know.)

During this trip, I feel grounded and ready to take flight in the same moment… how perfect leading up to a brand new job.

I am so so so thankful that Neal told me to book the flight and head to America, it was the best way to spend the time between jobs.

The lesson from this trip: It’s invaluable to reconnect with the ones we love without technology or gadgets. It’s worth making the time to for coffee or brunch or long chats over wine (always with the wine).  To step away from the computers or iPads or TVs, and get some real face to face time with “our” people.

Feeling inspired and ready to get the new role underway…. wish me luck my sweet friends!

PS-I have wonderful posts recapping our trip to Scotland from a few weeks back, be on the look out my loves!
