Brussels: Waffles and Beer Recommendations

When I think of Brussels, three food treats come to mind: chocolate, waffles and Beer. And even in our short 12-hour break in Brussels, we were able to treat ourselves to all three foodie delights. If you are planning on traveling to Brussels soon, make sure to add these two spots to your Brussels ‘to-do’ list:

Waffles: Maison Dandoy

Waffles in Brussels are around each corner, with options as low as €1 per waffle. Instead of going for one of these waffles at every corner, we decided to visit Maison Dandoy.  My sister recommended Maison Dandoy, a little bakery right off the Grand Place,   with a tea room on the top floor. The tea room opens at 11am, and if you are looking for a spot to rest your feet this is the perfect solution. Neal and I were there at 11 am, and the tea room started filling up quite quickly. I ordered the waffle with ice cream and chocolate sauce with a coffee. Neal opted for a waffle with ice cream and advocaat (a traditional Belgium liquor). The waffles ranged from about €3 to €4,80 but it was well worth it!

Here is Maison Dandoy website.

Hours: Shop is open from Monday to Saturday from 9:30am to 7pm,Sunday from 10:30am to 7pm.
TeaRoom is open from Monday to Sunday from 11am to 6pm.

Beer: Delirium Cafe

While we had our waffle pit stop, we researched for the best beer options in Brussels, we discovered the Delirium Cafe just minutes from the Grand Place! This bar is an ideal spot to spend some time, and with over 2,000 beer options there is an ale / IPA / port …. for everyone. Neal and I both ordered 1 L beers at about €7 each, and they were delicious. I wish I could tell you what we ordered, but I totally forgot to snap a photo of the chalkboard! Most of the beers are regional and European, but the bartenders are beyond helpful. If you know what type of beer you prefer, they can guide you in the right beer direction!

Here is the Delirium Cafe website.

Hours: Monday to Saturday from 10 am till 4 am. Sunday from 10 am till 2 am
It’s worth noting that Delirium only serves bar food, ie: chips and salsa, etc. If you are needing a fill you up meal, pop into a nearby restaurant before getting your beer drinking on.

Getting There…

If you are interested in visiting either Maison Dandoy or the Delirium Cafe, both are just minutes from the Grand Place, which is the heart of sightseeing and an easy spot easy to recalibrate in case you get lost.  For your reference, I’ve even added a little walking Google Map for you!  If you are arriving via the metro, hop off at Bourse station and it’s a five minute walk to Grand Place.

Don’t worry, we found a lovely little chocolate shop just outside of the Grand Place but we’ve yet to try them all!

What about you? Have you been to Brussels? Where would you recommend to taste some beer or waffles?
