Attempting to Not Over Plan Our Mini-Roman Holiday

To make the most of our mini-holiday and break to Rome, I have researched a few

I’ve rewatched Roman Holiday for ideas (Audrey Hepburn is so wonderfully inspiring) for spots to Visit throughout Rome.  In case you haven’t watched this classic film, stop reading right now and watch the trailer. The movie is simply divine.

{See what I mean?  How simply delightful is Audrey Hepburn? And Gregory Peck? *swoon*}

Our trip is a short 3 days but that is plenty of time for us to enjoy a few of the sights in Rome but I don’t want to plan too much or get overwhelmed.

We booked the trip as a package through LastMinute.com, and our hotel is on the doorstep of St. Peter’s Basilica.  I am excited to see Rome at night or catch the famous dome in the early morning light or at sunset. {Again, *swoon*}

I find that every time we travel, I simply plan too much and at the end of the trip we are simply exhausted.

With that in mind, I have narrowed the list a just a few highlights for this little Roman holiday we have for next week.

St. Peter’s Basilica

I’ve been to Rome twice (just for the day, when I worked on cruise ships) and even still I’ve never been inside St. Peter’s Basilica. We are planning on arriving in the morning right when it opens to enjoy the of the Basilica, and I ma beyond thrilled. It has been on my bucket list for quite some time, and I am ready to check it off!

Vatican Museum

I’ve pre-booked an audio tour at the Vatican Museum, for another morning, which means we can jump the potentially long lines. I was able to visit the Vatican Museum on one my single visits to Rome, but was a whirlwind. I am excited to absorb the beautiful art, and to feel wonderfully inspired. Oh, of course I want to crane my neck at the Sistine Chapel.

Saint Ignatius of Loyola

As you all know, I am a major Gonzaga basketball fan. (I know, I talk about it all the time.) But, did you know that Gonzaga is actually named after St. Aloysius Gonzaga? Who in fact is buried in a church in Rome? It seems silly, but I want to duck away from the crowds to visit the church where the namesake of Gonzaga University is buried.

From there, we plan to stroll and stop. Pop in for a cafe, or a gelato or maybe even visit a market. To people watch. Ah.

Of course I am most excited to experience the Eternal City with Neal….it will be a grand adventure!

Have you been to Rome? What is your favorite spot to visit?
