On my very short pre-researched list for where to visit in Porto, was Livraria Lello, named on numerous lists as one of the most beautiful bookshops in the world. Not only that, but the Bookshop inspired J.K Rowling as she wrote Harry Potter books.
We happened to stumble by this world-famous bookstore during the first afternoon of exploring in Porto by accident. You see, I vaguely knew the location of the bookshop on the map, but the scale of the map threw me off — everything was much closer than I had anticipated. (win!)
Within seconds, it’s easy to see what inspired J.K. Rowling as she wrote the first of the Harry Potter novels in the massive and dramatic staircase.
Guys, this bookshop is unlike anything I’ve ever seen impressive details, but small in size. With woodcarvings and a stained glass ceiling, the bookshop was simply stunning. The problem, the bookshop is really popular meaning taking photos can become a tactical nightmare. (Patience is key friends.)
While I was attempting to snap photos, I could wonderfully imagine how J.K. Rowling was inspired and how she must have recalled this beautiful place when she was writing the ever-so magical Harry Potter.
Despite the crowds, it’s worth a visit if you are a Harry Potter fan!

Tip from me to you: If you are dreaming of experiencing this bookshop for yourself, I would recommend visiting either right when it opens or towards the end of the day — to avoid crowds.
