The restaurant also has a wood-fired grill that includes a rotisserie oven and burns wood logs that creates a 100% natural smoked flavour.

Our Smoke ‘N Water Experience

We thoroughly enjoyed our dining experience at Smoke ‘N Water and loved the vibe and atmosphere. We were warmly greeted by General Manager David Jones, who told us about the restaurant and its rich history. Our server Sam was friendly, knowledgeable about all of the dishes on the menu, and she was professional in her approach.

Our three-year-old son sat in a high chair in the corner and we all faced outwards to the rest of the restaurant and stage where the band was playing. The music was fun and lighthearted, and it somewhat reminded me of a fun and laid-back Key West bar in Florida.

We were offered a set menu from the new Executive Chef on the team, Chef Robert Vandermeer, which provided us with a tasty impression of the restaurant’s new and upcoming menu. Our meal included mixed greens dressed with sherry red wine vinaigrette and topped with marinated tomatoes, bruniose bell peppers, shaved carrots, and flame grilled calamari.

I loved the way the calamari was cooked, as it wasn’t greasy or covered in batter. It was actually very light, which I believe a salad should be. The vinaigrette was very tasty as well. This salad was a hit with me and it was a nice introduction to our meal.

Up next, was honey balsamic lemon glazed salmon served with lemon cilantro quinoa, grilled asparagus, and roasted peppers. My husband and I loved the quinoa base of the fresh salmon. The salmon was cooked to perfection and we were both very happy. Our son had a yummy kid-friendly flame-grilled burger with fries, which is usually his go-to meal when out. He was very distracted by the band and spent most of the night dancing away in his high chair. That’s at least until his birthday sundae came out! (see below)

Our meal ended with a decadent New York Style Cheesecake and Crème caramel served with whipped cream and praline garnish. What a delight! Everything was tasty and served in a very colourful manner.

In a Nutshell

We were very happy with our visit and our dining experience. Everyone was very warm and friendly. We felt well taken care of by the staff and David Jones, and I would highly recommend this lively, fun restaurant to families, friends, and couples visiting Nanoose Bay, Vancouver Island, British Columbia.
