What A Difference A Year Makes

I believe it’s exactly a year since I was looking at the inside of a police cell Whilst suffering a nervous breakdown and facing the very real chance of spending Xmas in jail.  I was working a job I hated, pretty much anything resembling a friend had blanked me, I had a drug problem and the woman I loved and spent the last 4 years had fucked off with another bloke. I was pretty close to calling it a day in all honesty.

Had it not been for the intervention of my friends on social media and a good mate in Belgrade that threatened to get on a plane and physically throw me out of the flat I had been left with then chances are I would still be there today lying dead in a pool of my own urine, save for my landlord popping over to find out whilst the rent hadn’t been paid.

Today after nearly a year in Thailand, my confidence is fully restored.  I am fitter than perhaps ever before. I am more financially secure than ever before. I am respected more than ever before. And I am happier than ever before thanks to all of the above and I am truly loved and in love more than ever before. I write for over 30,000 people a day and what I write makes a real Difference to their lives. I am needed.

And living in a Buddhist country I don’t have to put up with the bullshit of Christmas either. Life is cruel how we must hit the very lows before we can again summit the highs, but that’s way it is. Not a day goes by now when I don’t thank my lucky stars for the unfortunate circumstances that led to the person I am today.

I am not prefect, nor will I ever be..who is.. but I probably am the best I can be.

Who can ask for more than that?
