Why is it important to improve our lifestyle in our 20s

Those in their 20s are in a stage of their lives when many changes occur in their both personal and professional lives. You face the corporate world for the first time, marriage for many and even kids for some. This period of life is called the most laborious years of one’s life and these years basically form a foundation for one’s spiritual beliefs, mental perceptions, lifestyle habits and professionals decisions. All of this brings in its own unique requirements in one’s diet. While we are in college, we require energy to study and stay focused. However, once we step into the much dreaded corporate world, we realize That ‘those that have passed were the best carefree days of our lives’! There are deadlines, stress, new official relationships, and a lot of new things to learn for us. Moreover, turning to our personal life, we are no longer a kid trying to fit into some group of cool people to look more cool. We are now focused towards taking the biggest decision of our lives, choosing a partner worth spending lives with and most importantly, it takes a toll sometimes on our mental and physical well being. Then for those who get married, it’s again a new fresh beginning that requires physical and mental efforts to bring the relationship to terms. In our late 20s, many of us also step in to parenthood which is sure to bring out the past lifestyle habits in to the limelight. Needless to say, that our diet and lifestyle needs a little more attention as this phase requires all our energy and focus towards more bigger things in life, the decisions that are going to remain with us for the rest of our lives and that are going to shape our future in this lifetime.

This is also the best time when most of us party and get wasted, and quite ironically, this is the time when we are the most ignorant about our health and our lifestyles. This has to do with all the stored energy and all the good habits that have resulted in our good health in this period. The consequences of our wrong lifestyle habits are only seen once we cross this age and reach our 30s and that’s when we realize the importance of adopting good habits and almost 80% of us end up thinking that these golden years were wasted for nothing. Therefore, we must keep a close eye on our health, diet and overall lifestyle in our 20s to keep us sound and fit for the rest of our lives as this is the time that lays foundation of our health for the coming years in the rest of life.

We are listing down some really essential routine shifts that we must adopt during our 20s so that we not just stay healthy during this time but also bring glory to the rest of years.

  1. Keep it natural, organic– This is the age when we shape our habits. If we start eating junk, for example, we are going to live with this habit for life. Similarly, if we start adopting organics in general, we are going to opt healthy throughout the life. This is importance because the impact of chemicals and other questionable ingredients in food, personal care products and much more, only show up their effects after maybe 5 or 10 years. It is only then that we realize all the diseases that we have consumed with all that we ate, wore and carried with us throughout this while. Hence, adopting healthy and organics as much as we may, is ranked #1 in our list of Must-Adopts in 20s
  2. Sleep cycles– regulate your sleep cycles. This is important to restore your energy for the big days that you live in. Your life is hectic and it needs its own resurgence process. Sleep is the root cause of many life disturbing after effects like insomnia, constipation, depression and anxiety and much more.
  3. Develop a habit to prepare fresh food – Farm fresh food and cooked fresh is the way to a healthy living. Storing food is mostly the western tradition that we have inappropriately adopted. Our ancient Indian Ayurveda form of cooking also stresses upon cooking farm fresh vegetables and eating them freshly cooked and not storing them to pile up the refrigerator.
  4. No harm eating supplements, but again, keep it strictly organic- We understand that you are leading a hectic life and no matter how much we stress, we cannot completely follow the dietary regime as advised. Therefore, there are many organic vitamins and minerals available to restore our health. There is no age for eating these and those who say that 20s is not for this, probably are themselves ignorant to maintain a life free of deficiencies. These days, most of diseases have started cropping up in late 20s because we think that if we are in our 20s, we need no routine, no nutrition attention and can eat as much junk as we could. This is NOT true. We are here to value each day that comes and every day has its own unique challenges. We need a healthy mind, body and soul to keep up with the challenges each day and face them head on.
  5. It is one thing to eat out , but it is another to eat nonsensically. Everything in life, has to get a balance. If we are eating or drinking wrongly, it is going to show up. It’s like what goes around comes around. In our 20s we are often attracted to a life filled with alcohol, smoke and all the other health hazards and most of the young fellows are caught in the trap. Putting us off this, requires great self-control at this age and a big deal of awareness to keep ourselves free of addictions and maintain a health that goes a long way with us.
  6. You need calcium big time during your 20s. So do not forget to grab that glass full of milk. To make it more nutritious, do not add any flavor to the milk for your daily breakfast. Have it as it is and this is going to surely go a long way. There are many organic calcium supplements just in case your doctor advises you to eat.
  7. Stay fit, go outdoor- Staying fit is a big deal during your 20s. Indulge in at least one outdoor activity and this will keep your cholesterol and weight in control to avoid any related disease to crop up later.
