Beyonce Knowles has given us enough reasons to care about Lemon detox diet. Naturally detoxifying our body is an idea that one accepts readily but many people do not have much information and knowledge as to how to go about it. First of all, let’s investigate what Detoxification means, why is it important for women and men, adults and children alike. So putting it quite simply, detoxification is elimination of toxins from the body. It is a natural process of our body to eliminate toxins and unwanted materials from the body. With arrangements and alterations in our own diet, we try to support our body’s detoxification and elimination process with nutrients and other necessary intakes. Toxins could be a range of chemicals, adulterated drinks (including alcoholic beverages), caffeine, pesticides, nicotine, sugar, etc. Toxins can be from food (wheat, legumes, etc.), the air, water, mold, clothing, or for some, even your cell phone. However, today we will only be able to cover some of the removal processes for toxins in the body.

Throw away eatables that are full of chemicals and pesticides that basically interfere with your overall detoxification process. Bring home some alternatives that are farm fresh and/or Organic. An Organic diet ensures elimination of foreign entry of toxins during the time you are already focusing on eliminating toxins from your body.

Secondly, understand that there is no such thing as a bullet proof diet in India. You cannot completely overcome the situational and environmental macro effects of toxins. Hence, there is going to be a lot of emphasis on individual efforts for yourself to detoxify your body.

Along with the physical detoxification, you require mental detox as well in order to achieve and maintain a sound, overall healthy life state.

  2. Lime and lemony diet– Use of lemon is such a powerful way of detoxifying your body. It improves digestion, boosts mineral absorption, and the antioxidant present in lemon – di-limonine is shown to activate enzymes in the liver that are part of the Phase 1 and Phase 2 detoxification processes. These processes take compounds present in the liver that are toxic to cells and convert them to non-harmful or less harmful versions. These “toxins” can range from caffeine to ibuprofen.

Best is to have six to twelve lemonades daily (or as per your body’s acceptance levels). Prepare your lemon drink with organic brown sugar, lemon, water and a bit of organic rock salt & pepper which gives you enough carbohydrates to boost up your energy and metabolism of your body. You can even add some farm fresh mint to the drink to make it more summary and flavorful.

Ingredients for Lemon detox drink

This is the classic single serve recipe provided in Stanley Burrough’s book:

2 (tbs). of lemon or lime
2 (tbs). of genuine maple syrup
1/10 tsp cayenne pepper
10 oz. water (hot or cold as preferred)

For those who cannot enjoy their lemonade, Tom offers this alternative:

1. Mix equal parts of lemon juice and maple syrup as a concentrate in a dark container. Keep this mixture cool.
2. Make enough concentrate for as long as you are incapable of making the fresh lemonade juice.
3. Every time you want a glass of lemonade, measure 4 tbs. of this mixture in a glass.
4. Add water and cayenne pepper, stir and drink. The maple syrup preserves the lemon juice and prevents oxidation of the vitamin C and enzymes.

  1. Avoid sugar– Do not starve yourself of sugar but try to eliminate those forms of sugar that instantly boost the sugar intake of your body. Concentrated sugar proves to digest slowly and not make you crave repeatedly for the same.
  2. Avoid air fresheners and maintain minimum contact with anything artificial to affect the air that you breath.
