The standard of the Crystal Jade Dim Sum has always been high. Crystal Jade is always a consistent Chinese restaurant we turn to when we can’t think of anything else. Having outlets all over Singapore also makes it easy to find them. Their nicest outlet in Singapore is the Crystal Jade Golden Palace at Paragon.  It is also the branch with a 1 Michelin star award. It is beautiful with a classy ambience. But they have made a major change to the decor. Can you spot the change?

The place felt different but it took us a while to figure out what they have actually done. They have raised the chandeliers to the ceiling. They used to be supported on lamp stands on the floor (see old photo below). The new look makes sense as it frees out space on the floor but we prefer the old, more charming look.

The Crystal Jade dim sum remains roughly the same. We tend to order the usual dim sum items. Here are pictures of the Crystal Jade Golden Palace dim sum menu and a couple of pages from their current Nov 2017 menu.

Another new thing which we do not recall from the past are the individual pickles.  At the end of the meal, we realised that they cost $2 each.

As for the food, they were still as good as what we expect the standard of Crystal Jade dim sum to be. We had a few types of steamed dumplings and some other items including two types of fried radish cake. Everything was good but, for us, the must try items are the shark’s fin dumpling soup, the steamed prawn and chive dumpling ($5.80 per basket) and the fried XO carrot cake ($12.80).

The shark’s fin dumpling was quite expensive at $8.60 per piece, but the soup was exquisite. The xiao long bao were not bad in terms of taste but their appearance was not very appealing – they looked so saggy!

Overall, you can’t go wrong to have a Crystal Jade dim sum lunch especially in the Paragon outlet. Nice food with consistent quality, beautiful ambience and attentive service are reasons why we return to Golden Palace.
