天勝 Tensho by MOF- Japanese Specialty Tendon at Centrepoint

Tempura Donburi 天ぷら丼ぶり or Tendon 天丼,  started to become very popular in Singapore slightly more than a year ago. We managed to try Tempura Rice Bowls at Kohaku Tempura Restaurant at Suntec City, when it was one of the very few specialty Japanese tendon restaurants in Singapore. Now there are many more options. 天勝 Tensho by MOF is a Japanese Specialty Tendon restaurant at The Centrepoint. It is in a convenient location and the prices are reasonable.

天勝 Tensho by MOF is located in basement 1 of The Centrepoint, just outside the Cold Storage Supermarket. It is a simply decorated place. It is rather small so expected the tables to be placed quite close together. There are a few bar counter seats. comfortable but not luxurious.

Menu of Tensho Japanese Tendon

The menu of Tensho is quite limited. There are different varieties of a la carte tendon which can be upgraded to a meal by topping up $3. You can also have udon instead of rice and they also have curry udon.

A number of Japanese eateries in Singapore now offer free eggs. Tensho is not one of such restaurants but it offers free pickles.

Japanese Tendon at Tensho

We visited 天勝 Tensho at Centrepoint recently and ordered the Mini Tendon with Udon Set ($11.80) and a Mixed Tendon ($10.80). Green Tea was $1.50 per person. GST and service charge would be added to the bill.

The waiting time was about 15 to 20 minutes (or it felt that way). The good thing was that we could see that the tempura was could upon order.

The mini tendon that came with the set was not that mini. It was probably just a small fraction smaller than the regular a la carte tendon. Something notable was that the set actually came with 2 whole eggs – one in the udon and one in the tendon. Besides the egg, the tendon came with prawn, fish, and vegetables. The tempura was quite well done and the rice was of good quality. The broth for the udon was light but quite tasty.

The a la carte Mixed Tendon was essentially the same as the mini tendon that came with the set; except that there were extra pieces of fish and prawns.

A good thing about eating Japanese tendon at Tensho was that the rice did not drown in tendon sauce. There was only a light drizzle of the sauce when the tendon was served. the A bottle of sweet savoury tendon sauce was placed on the table so that we can add the amount we liked at the time we liked.

Overall, we don’t think that the Japanese tendon at Tensho by MOF would be among the best you can find in Singapore. However, it is still good quality Tempura Donburi that is quite enjoyable and Tensho’s prices are very reasonable.
