Monster Curry is a chain of restaurants serving Japanese style curry. Currently they have 11 outlets all over Singapore including places such as Vivo City, Ion Orchard, Suntec City and Jurong Point. Monster Curry’s sauce is said to contain up to 14 different spices and vegetables and require up to two days to cook. We visited the Monster Curry Parkway Parade outlet.

The decor at Monster Curry Parkway Parade is simple and colourful.  It is a clean and tidy, no frills kind of place.

Here are some pictures of the Monster Curry Menu. Decision making basically involves three steps. Choose the type curry set that you fancy. Select what other toppings to add on. Decide on the level of spiciness of the curry. There are six levels ranging from zero to Monster spicy.

Monster Curry Combo

We decided to try one of the combo dishes – the Mountain Monster Curry Combo ($24). It is meant to be shared by 2; but would probably be enough for 3 persons with average appetite. It contained four types of toppings – Crispy Pork Katsu, Pork Shabu-shabu, Pork Sausages and Chicken Karaage.

Being newbies at Monster Curry, we played safe and opted for Level 1 spiciness (normal spicy) which is provided by a hot sauce that is a concoction of chilli padi, garlic, ginger and celery. The sauce was drizzled into the curry, creating patterns. Will curry art become as interesting as latte art?

The curry was smooth with a salty-sweet flavour. We were quite happy with our choice of mild level of spiciness. We could be more daring the next time and try level  2, but probably not more than that to avoid drowning out the other tastes. As for the toppings, the best items were the  pork katsu and chicken karaage. If we return, we will just have the classic pork katsu curry, which is our favourite. The individual pork katsu curry costs $13, which is quite reasonably priced.
