Brunch at The Terrace Conrad Hotel, Singapore

The Terrace Conrad Hotel, Singapore seems to be a cafe that had just sprouted out of the ground just outside the Conrad Hotel lobby.  We can’t really recall what used to be there – probably a basic sports bar or something. But there is now this new and sparkling glass and aluminium box called The Terrace. There is also a welcoming set of patio sofas and furniture that looked perfect for lounging. We decided to eat brunch there.

The Terrace Conrad Cafe is totally non-airconditioned, occupying the sheltered part of the exterior of Conrad Hotel. Further down the corridor is the Oscars restaurant that is a general purpose restaurant that serves international cuisine.

The Terrace Cafe Conrad Hotel itself serves basic casual Food such as sandwiches and salads. But if that is too boring, they can arrange for food to be ordered from Oscars and delivered over, which was what we did. We ordered some items from Terrace and some satay and laksa from Oscars.

The food from The Terrace Conrad cafe were prepared quite quickly. We had the Mozza Sesame Bun ($6) and Focaccia Chicken Sandwich ($7.50). The quality of these sandwiches were high and they were very attractively presented.  We would also say that these prices were very reasonable. The same, however, cannot be said of the cappuccino and black coffee that we ordered. They cost $12 and $9.50 each, although it is fair to say that the quality of the coffee was good.

We also tried some pastries from the display case. The muffin ($3.30) and almond croissant ($3) were both very good.

Next were the food delivered from Oscars restaurant. The laksa ($23) was very rich and flavourful. It was also served in a large bowl which was sufficient to be sub-divided into four small portions. It was one of the best laksa in Singapore that we have eaten.

We had a dozen of beef and chicken satay ($23). It was of an above average quality, but the presentation was top-notch. The most attractive part was the well crafted ketupat. The woven cover of the ketupat was almost too well made to be torn apart to get to the rice inside. In addition to the usual peanut sauce, there was also some pineapple sauce to go with the satay. A practice that harks back to the past when a dollop of pineapple puree was sometimes added to the peanut sauce dip for the satay.

Overall, it was an interesting brunch at Terrace Cafe. The local food items from Oscars next door was very good. The ready to go pastries and sandwiches were of good quality and well priced. Its street side location makes it a convenient place to order and pick up take away food on the run. Which is probably what the Conrad folks had in mind as two carpark lots were earmarked for such customers just next to the cafe.
