25 Degrees Singapore – Burger, Wine & Liquor Bar in Middle Road

25 Degrees Singapore is a new gourmet American Burger restaurant. The US restaurant chain originated in Los Angeles and is apparently popular with the Hollywood set. It can boast of being the Winner of Bangkok’s Great American Burger Competition 2016. Located in Hotel G, Middle Road, 25 Degrees Singapore is a new hot spot for good reasonably priced gourmet burgers.

25 Degrees is named after the precise temperature difference between a raw and well-done hamburger. 25 Degrees Singapore occupies a small space at the junction of Bencoolen Street and Middle Road. Its decor is like that of a typical American bar with plenty of dark wood. Its tall glass windows let it a lot of natural light during the day, perhaps a bit too much on a bright hot day.

This burger & liquor bar is helmed by executive chef Sylvain Royer who also runs the adjoining restaurant bar Ginett.

25 Degrees Singapore Menu

25 Degrees Singapore Menu is a simple affair. There are five signature burgers with different array of toppings and condiments, all costing $14. These are matter-of-factly named ‘Number One’ to ‘Number Four’ and ‘Veggie Burger’.  You can also create your own burger. Crafting your own burger is likely mean a more expensive one because the extras and cheese cost $2 per item and even the sauce will mean $1.50 extra.

There are also a few all day breakfast items as well as salad, soup and desserts on the 25 Degrees Menu.

It is a bar so, as you will expect, the drinks list is rather comprehensive.  However, non-alcoholic beverages are quite limited at 25 Degrees Singapore. If you want a hot drink, there is just brewed coffee and that’s it – no latte, hot chocolate or fancy tea.

25 Degrees Burgers

We went to 25 Degrees for lunch on a weekday. There was a Lunch Special ($18) – choice of burger and beer or soft drink, with fries included. We selected the Burger No.1 for the Lunch Special and also ordered a Burger No.3 ($14).

The burger that comes with the Lunch Special is smaller compared to the burger ordered as a standalone. However, it is still a good size, and probably more sensible size if you like to have fries or onion rings on the side.

The Lunch Special was served on a tray lined with brown paper. The hamburger was wrapped also with brown paper with just a small part of the burger peeking out, looking quite appetizing. The beef patty was topped with caramelized onion, bacon, arugula, gorgonzola Prelibato and a pinkish thousand island dressing. The lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers and onion rings were neatly stacked at the side. The ground beef patty, cooked-to-preference, had a nice balanced mix of lean and fatty meat. The brioche bun was light and soft.  Overall, it was a tasty satisfying burger.

The Burger No.3 also came in a brown wrap. The good sized beef patty was topped with mezzo secco jack, green chili, chipotle, and avocado. Burger No.3 did not look as pretty as No.1 but it was the hotter of the two. Like a  good burger should be, the meat patty was the centre of the attention but the toppings gave the No.3 burger an extra spicy kick. Burger No.3 with its green chilli should be popular with Singaporeans and Malaysians, who have been adding chilli to our hamburgers for the longest time.

With so many great burger choices in Singapore, 25 Degrees Singapore need to be pretty special to stand out, its Hollywood connections notwithstanding.  We think it might just have done enough to make it to our list of favourite burger restaurants in Singapore. The setting is casual yet decidedly a few notches above a fast fast joint. The prices are reasonable and the hamburgers are good looking.  The quality beef and mix of delicious toppings combined well to give us burgers we really enjoyed.
