Directions: From Walmart head west on the Carretera towards Ajijic. Turn left at the stoplight on Calle Galeana, which is the first traffic light past the Pemex station. Head south (towards the lake) for 3 blocks and turn right on Calle Constitucion. Go 1 block west, then turn right on Calle Marcos Castellano. La Una is 1/2 block on the right. Parking is on the street in front of the restaurant.
La Una has moved to a new, larger location across the street from the original café. But, it still retains the air of a French bistro - cool, cozy, artsy, romantic. It is one of those places that draws you in off the street and makes you want to linger.
The new café features tables in a spacious indoor dining area and a large courtyard with umbrella covered tables. There is a menu posted just inside the door and when you stop to read it, wonderful aromas beckon you to come in. Maybe you can already tell that La Una is one of our favorite places to eat in Ajijic.
The Croissant ala Douglas in one of our favorites. The menu also includes eggs benedict and New Mexican style Huevos Rancheros. The coffee is brewed fresh and is hot and refreshed often by the waiter and is included in the price of your breakfast.
Lunch is also a treat. Tasty gourmet sandwiches serve on soft croissants or a selection of salads. The croissants are baked fresh daily, in house, and are the best I have ever tasted. Someone in the kitchen knows what they are doing when it comes to baking.
The dinner menu offers a variety of tapas, as well as duck confit, quail, salmon and seafood dishes. Meals are served with a basket of delicious bread.
The food at La Una is gourmet, creative and truly delicious. It is obvious that great effort and skill went into designing the menu.
We head to La Una for breakfast or lunch often after our Spanish class and have never been disappointed. Reviewers rave about the dinner menu, and now that we know that it includes tapas, our next visit will be during the dinner hour. La Una now offers a full bar as well as wine and beer.
The inside dining area is graced with original art and there is a fireplace in the bar. There is also an outdoor courtyard if you prefer to eat al fresco. La Una has live music on some evenings during the week.
The bathrooms are spacious, clean and modern with a separate space for women and men. The only recommendation I have is to add some soft music in the outdoor courtyard in the afternoons.
Lunch is a bit more, but what is lunch without a glass of wine as an accompaniment? Their house white wine is a good, properly chilled Sauvignon Blanc. The prices at La Una are very reasonable, from $54 pesos for breakfast entrees to $229 pesos for the most expensive dinner entrée.

Menu
Though in a new setting, the menu has essentially the same items and quality as in the former location. La Una opens for breakfast and does not close until after dinner. We particularly enjoy ordering from the breakfast menu, which offers crisp, light waffles served with fruit and bacon or sausage and a selection of syrups.Crispy waffles for breakfast |

Ambience
The new La Una has a wonderful atmosphere for intimate meals with someone special or as a place to invite friends for conversation. The quality of the food is excellent and at La Una you never feel rushed.Delicious enchiladas suisse |

Price
We visited La Una recently. We had two breakfast entrees and coffee and our bill was $130 pesos. That is less than $10 and the menu is unique and the food scrumptious. A bottomless cup of coffee is included in the price of breakfast and service is prompt and attentive.Lunch is a bit more, but what is lunch without a glass of wine as an accompaniment?
