Celebrating 100 Years of Women Poster Designers: London Transport Museum

We recently discovered about a fantastic exhibition taking place at the London Transport Museum (Covent Garden); one that celebrates and shines a light on female poster designers from the 2oth century. Poster Girls – a century of art and design will exhibit over 150 posters and original artwork, featuring some of the leading female artists who have worked for London Transport and Transport for London over the past 100 years. The exhibition is running until January 2019, so plenty of time, but don’t let that stop you visiting as soon as possible!

Below are a selection of some of our favourite poster designs…

Designer: Sheila Stratton (1950s) London Transport Museum

Designer: Mary Koop (1925) London Transport Museum

The exhibition will start in the early 1900’s and, moving one decade at a time, bring us up to modern times and show how each era shaped artistic approaches. The artwork will show the many styles and mediums used: modernist, figurative, flat colour, boldly patterned, abstract, collage and oil. More details can be found at the London Transport Museum exhibition website.
