It splits red and white oak efficiently and it consistently splits 10 to 12-inch logs and some quite bigger logs. There are times when you have to nibble off the edges of the really big logs with small splits prior to getting the main log to split, but it usually gets the job done.
Sometimes it grinds to a halt on a piece with a big knot but with a little patience and turning the log around and attacking the other end will get the job done. Also, it has another feature which allows you to adjust the RAM’s length which is good if you’re working smaller length logs. If you close the fluid valve it stores upright in about a square foot of floor space.
