Managing Confluence

• Profile
• Space

Profile

• The user profile contains basic information about the user, which other Confluence users can see. A user can also view other user’s profiles by clicking on the username.
• Confluence provides OAuth access token, It allows you to use a Confluence gadget on an external web application and grant this gadget access to Confluence data which is restricted to your Confluence user account only.

• A user can revoke OAuth access for a particular consumer.
• Figure 1 shows the basic profile tab.

Spaces

• Spaces are Confluence’s way of organizing content into meaningful categories. Think of it like having different folders into which you can put your work. Spaces come in two main varieties:
  • Site space is the areas where you create content and collaborate with others. They are sometimes called global spaces.
  • Personal spaces are listed in the People Directory and found under your personal profile.
• There’s no limit to the number of Spaces you create on Confluence. The user can choose to set up a space for each team, project or a mix of both depending on your needs.
• Each space in Confluence has its own set of permissions, which can be granted and revoked by a space administrator.
• Figure 2 shows the options while creating space.

Pages

• It allows you to capture and share information in Confluence. They are created when you want the information to last which evolves over time.
• Each Confluence space, including your personal space, allows you to create pages in it and provides blog area where you can create posts.
• The user can create a page from anywhere in Confluence, by choosing the space and templates for appropriate page creation.
• Page restrictions allow the user to control who can view and/or edit individual pages in a space. So if user working on a page that shouldn’t be viewed by everybody, it’s easy to lock it down to the people who need to know.
• Confluence provides quick search option on top right of every page, it also provides full search option, users can search any content in any spaces using the full search option.
• Figure 3 shows tab of creating pages in Confluence.

Macros

• Using macros helps you to expand the capabilities of your Confluence pages.
• allowing you to add extra functionality or include dynamic content.
• There are multiple macros which user can use in Confluence page. For e.g. activity stream macro, attachment macro, chart macro, gadget macro, HTML macro, etc.
• If your Confluence is connected to JIRA application, then a user can create and display JIRA issues on Confluence pages. The user can connect Confluence to any JIRA application, including JIRA Software and JIRA Service Desk.
