3 Ways to Remove Protected View in Excel
To explore the methods, we’ll use the following dataset representing the hourly rate of some content writers who worked in ExcelDemy.
1. Remove Protected View by Clicking Enable Editing Button in Excel
First, we’ll learn the most common and easy method to erase the Protected View in Excel. It’s not a permanent method, you will have to do it every single time when you download or collect Excel files from other sources.
Step:
- Click the Enable Editing Button under the ribbon bar that you will get after opening a downloaded or collected Excel file.
Now see, the Protected View mode is removed.
2. Clear Protected View Using Info Option
We can do the same operation in a bit different way, there is an option in the File menu that can remove the Protected View. It’s the same command that we learned in the first method just placed in a different place.
Steps:
- Click on the File tab.
- After that click as follows: Info ➤ Enable Editing.
Then you will get that Excel has removed the Protected View.
3. Permanently Remove Protected View from Trust Center Settings in Excel
The previous method was a temporary solution, in this section, we’ll learn a way that will permanently remove the Protected View. When you are using an AntiVirus or downloading, or collecting files from a trusted source then this method will be really useful for you.
Steps:
- Click on the File tab.
- Next, click Option from the appeared File menu.
Consequently, the Excel Options dialog box will open up.
- After that, click as follows: Trust Center > Trust Center Settings.
It will open another dialog box.
- At this moment, Click Protected View from the left menu.
- Then unmark all options from the Protected View section.
- Press OK and it will take you back to the previous dialog box.
- Nothing to do anymore, just press OK.
Then if you open an Excel file downloaded or collected from anywhere, you will never face the Protected View. I opened a downloaded file after applying this method and didn’t face Protected View.
