Il Museo Civico di Castelbuono presenta “Raymond Controfigura”, una mostra collettiva ideata da Luca trevisani che riunisce autori internazionali di diverse discipline e background attorno alla figura di Raymond Roussel. Il progetto è in collaborazione con Fondazione per l’Arte onlus, risultato vincitore della seconda edizione del progetto Italian Council 2017, bando di concorso ideato dalla Direzione Generale Arte e Architettura contemporanee e Periferie urbane (DGAAP) del Ministero per i Beni e le Attività Culturali, per promuovere l’arte contemporanea italiana a livello internazionale. La mostra è un evento collaterale di Manifesta 12, ed è inserita nel cartellone ufficiale di Palermo Capitale della Cultura 2018.
Raymond Controfigura è un viaggio nel linguaggio di Raymond Roussel, poeta francese, romanziere, drammaturgo, musicista, eccentrico presidente della “Repubblica dei Sogni” e nasce come la continuazione, l’espansione e lo sviluppo di Raymond, progetto di Luca Trevisani e Olaf Nicolai ospitato dal Grand Hotel et Des Palmes di Palermo, in corso fino a novembre 2018.
All’interno del Castello di Ventimiglia prende vita un ambiente labirintico, fatto di oggetti, suoni, odori, specchi e immagini in movimento. Come nei romanzi rousselliani, anche qui tutto è sdoppiato, ripetuto, ritrovato e riscoperto. Raymond Roussel ha inventato delle “macchine da linguaggio” che non hanno nessun altro scopo se non quello di evidenziare il profondo rapporto che questo, in ogni sua forma, intrattiene, scioglie, riprende, e indefinitamente ripete, con la vita e con la morte. Questa è l’eredità più profonda, radicale e attuale che lo scrittore ci ha lasciato.
Il linguaggio riflette se stesso e dispone di un solo potere: quello di far nascere in sé la propria immagine, in un gioco di ripetizioni che, da parte sua, non ha limiti. Raymond Controfigura si propone di esplorarlo partendo dagli oggetti di Maurice Florence, Ute Müller e Fabio Quaranta, dai lavori di Lupo Borgonovo e Luca Vitone, dai disegni di Meris Angioletti, dalle ripetizioni di Amedeo Martegani, da tortuosi labirinti in prosa e in versi di Francesco Cavaliere, dal Radiodramma di Lucia Amara e Kinkaleri, per disegnare traiettorie invisibili e invitare il visitatore a un viaggio sonoro, letterario, onirico. Opere bi e tridimensionali, sonore e filmiche convivono in un dialogo virtuoso, costruendo una situazione spaziale, un ritmo, una coreografia discreta.
Alcuni oggetti raccontano il legame con il progetto realizzato al Grand Hotel et Des Palmes: prove e bozze d’autore del libro Via Roma 398 Palermo, edito da Humboldt Books, e una serie di oggetti provenienti dall’hotel, sono inseriti all’interno della mostra per esplicitare e rafforzare il legame concettuale, territoriale e sinergico tra il Museo, la sua sede, e l’evento prodotto a Palermo in occasione di Manifesta 12.
Come previsto dal bando promosso dall’Italian Council, al termine del progetto un nucleo di opere realizzate dall’artista Luca Trevisani entrerà a far parte della collezione permanente del Museo Civico di Castelbuono.
Durante il periodo espositivo si svolgeranno una serie di incontri, conversazioni, proiezioni che coinvolgeranno artisti, studiosi, giornalisti, sulla figura di Raymond Roussel per approfondire una delle personalità più interessanti e generative nella storia culturale del XX e XXI secolo, in collaborazione con l’Institut Français di Palermo.
Luca Trevisani (Verona, 1979, vive e lavora a Milano, Berlino e Palermo) porta avanti una ricerca che spazia fra la scultura e il video, e attraversa discipline di confine come le arti performative, quelle grafiche, il design, il cinema di ricerca o l’architettura. Nelle sue installazioni le caratteristiche storiche della scultura sono interrogate se non addirittura sovvertite. Caratteristica delle sue opere è l’instabilità, una condizione evolutiva magnetica e mutante che espande e contrae senza sosta i confini fra ogni singolo elemento dell’opera e l’ambiente, che diventa ora irradiato, ora protagonista indiscusso. Ha ottenuto premi e mostre in importanti centri d’arte e musei, tra i quali, MAXXI Museo nazionale delle arti del XXI secolo, Roma; MACRO – Museo d’Arte Contemporanea Roma; Magasin, Grenoble; la Mostra Internazionale di Architettura della Biennale di Venezia; Manifesta7; Museion, Bolzano; Museum of Contemporary Art, Tokyo; Daimler Kunstsammlung, Berlino; CCA Andratx, Maiorca; Giò Marconi, Milano; Mambo, Bologna; Mehdi Chouakri, Berlino; Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo, Torino. Ha pubblicato i libri The effort took its tools (Argobooks, 2008), Luca Trevisani (Silvana editoriale, 2009) e The art of Folding for young and old (Cura Books, 2012) e Via Roma, 398 (Humboldt Books, 2018).

The Museo Civico of Castelbuono presents, Raymond Controfigura, a group show conceived by Luca Trevisani, that brings together international artists from different disciplines and backgrounds around the figure of Raymond Roussel. The project is in collaboration with the Fondazione per l’Arte onlus, Rome and is recipient of the second edition of the Italian Council 2017, a completion notice aimed at promoting Italian contemporary art internationally, devised by the Direzione Generale Arte e Architettura contemporanee e Periferie urbane (DGAAP) office of the Ministero per i Beni e le Attività Culturali e il Turismo. The exhibition is a collateral event of Manifesta 12 and is part of the official calendar of Palermo Capitale della Cultura 2018.
Raymond Controfigura is a voyage in Raymond Roussel’s imaginary. He was a French poet novelist, dramatist, musician, eccentric President of the “Republic of Dreams”. This exhibition was elaborated as a continuation, expansion and development of Raymond, the project by Luca Trevisani and Olaf Nicolai hosted at the Grand Hotel et Des Palmes of Palermo, ongoing until November 2018.
A labyrinthine and discreet environment takes shape within the Ventimiglia Castle, made of objects, sounds, smells, mirrors and moving images. As in Roussel’s novels, here too everything is split, repeated, rediscovered and found again. The recurrence of works and devices underlines the arbitrariness of the language with which we look at the world. Raymond Roussel invented language machines that had no other purpose than to highlight the profound relationship that every language entertains, melts, resumes and indefinitely repeats with life and death. This is the deepest, radical and contemporary legacy that the writer has left us. Language reflects itself, it meets something like a mirror and has only one power: that of giving birth to its own image, in a game of repetitions that has no limits. Raymond Controfigura proposes to explore the labyrinth starting from the objects by Maurice Florence, Ute Müller, and Fabio Quaranta, the artworks by Lupo Borgonuovo and Luca Vitone, the drawings by Meris Angioletti, the repetitions by Amedeo Martegani, the winding mazes in prose and verses by Francesco Cavaliere, the Radiodrama by Lucia Amara and Kinkaleri. All these interventions draw invisible trajectories and invite the visitor to a literary and resounding dreamlike voyage. Two and three-dimensional creations together with sound works and films
coexist in a virtuous dialogue, building a spatial environment, a rhythm, a discreet choreography.
Some objects talk about the link with the project created at the Grand Hotel et Des Palmes: sketches and artist’s drafts of the book Via Roma 398 Palermo, published by Humboldt Books, and a series of objects coming from the hotel are included in the exhibition to explain and strengthen the conceptual, territorial and synergic link between the Museum, its headquarters, and the event produced in Palermo on the occasion of Manifesta 12.
As required by the completion notice of the Italian Council, at the end of the project a nucleus of works created by the artist Luca Trevisani will become part of the permanent collection of the Museo Civico, Castelbuono.
During the period of the exhibition, the Museum will host a series of talks, conversations and screenings to study the figure of Raymond Roussel, involving artists, scholars, journalists, in collaboration with the Institut Français of Palermo, in order to deepen the knowledge of one of the most interesting and generative personalities in the cultural history of the XX and XXI century.

Luca Trevisani (Verona, 1979, lives and works in Milan, Berlin and Palermo) pursues research that range from sculpture to video, and crosses border disciplines such as the performing arts, graphics, design, experimental cinema or architecture. In his installations the historical characteristics of sculpture are questioned, if not actually overturned. A characteristic of his works is instability, a magnetic and changing evolutionary condition which, without pause, expands and contracts the borders between each single element of a work and the environment, which at times becomes irradiated and, at times, the undisputed protagonist.
