The the winds of change are blowing hard in India. Widespread protests across India after the death of the New Delhi gang rape victim Nirbhaya. This is a turning point in the nations history. The outcome is sure to effect women all over the world. After the death of two gang rape victims. Many are calling for mandatory death penalty for all rapists. There is also a gun control debate in India. India has very tough gun laws. It is very rare to find a person in India that owns a handgun.Some are now calling for the laws to be changed to let more people own guns. The strict gun laws that India has that prevent most people in India from owning handguns. These are the same kind of guns laws that Obama wants in America.
I think in America we have more people in prison than any other nation. The fact is that a lot of people don't care about going to jail. Some spend their whole life in and out of prison. Many times when someone gets raped or a child gets molested. It turns out that the person has done this before.
It should be mandatory life in prison or the death penalty for rapists and child molesters.
In the military , you can get the death penalty for rape. But no one in the military has been given the death penalty for rape in over 40 years I think. Six states used to have the death penalty for the rape of a child. But in 2008 in a 5-4 Ruling the Supreme Court said this was unconstitutional. The Supreme Court also said some other stuff that was total BS.
After a review of the "history of the death penalty for this and other non homicide crimes, current state statutes and new enactments ... we conclude there is a national consensus against capital punishment for the crime of child rape," Justice Anthony Kennedy wrote.
I think the Supreme Court got this one wrong. I think most people would support an amendment to the constitution, to give the death penalty for rape.
