The Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly only passed 2 out of the 11 bills introduced in the Assembly in the last one year.
The House passed the Appropriation Bill (budget) and the Local Government Administration Amendment Bill (for the appointment of unconstitutional caretaker committes across the 31 Local Government Areas of the State.

Defending the gross incompetence and ineptitude of the House, the Speaker, Mr Onofiok Luke, ridiculously and shamelessly declared that his colleagues were distracted by election petitions which made them to frequently shuttle between the State and Abuja where their cases were heard.
However, the Speaker failed to inform those who may be credulous enough to pay attention to his untenable defence of the House’s incompetence that the election that brought him and his colleagues to the House was massively rigged and devoid of credibility. The Election Tribunal and the Court of Appeal only dismissed most of the petitions on technical grounds.

Also, Mr Luke failed to state that despite the election petitions, the 26 members of the Assembly received full salaries, allowances and other entitlements throughout the duration of the litigations in court. Is it not criminal for the Assembly members of accept salaries and allowances, including sitting allowances, for a job they did not perform?
The only achievement of the current Assembly in the last one year is the unjustifiable approval of several loan requests for the State Governor. It is the height of incompetence that the House has not met the expectations of the people of the state.
This is very unfortunate.
