Akwa Ibom 2019: Uyo Vows To Dump PDP Over Bassey Albert, Senate Seat

The battle for Uyo Senatorial Seat in 2019 has taken another dimension following the declaration of war by elders from Uyo Federal Constituency comprising Uyo, Uruan, Ibesikpo Asutan and Nsit Atai local government areas.

The Sensor authoritatively gathered that Uyo Federal Constituency has vowed to produce the next Senator, a situation that is said to be against the aspiration of the current occupant of the seat, Obong Bassey Albert (OBA) who is seeking a return ticket.

An elder of the constituency, Chief Ubon Asian said that Uyo Federal Constituency will fight for the ticket to a finish and make sure that a Senator emerges from the area no matter the political Party.

Another elder from Ibesikpo Asutan who gave his name simply as elder Friday, told our correspondent that Uyo Federal Constituency will not sit down and watch Ibiono Ibom/Itu Federal Constituency produce

Senator for three terms in the person of Senator Ita Enang and Obong Bassey Albert.

While encouraging aspirants from Uruan and Ibesikpo Asutan in the persons of Barr. Usenobong Akpabio, Obong Ikpe Obong, and others to seek for the seat, he noted that if PDP denies them ticket and gives to OBA, there will be mass defection and support to another Party to ensure that the rights of Uyo Federal Constituency is not denied.

On his part, Chief Francis Okon urged Governor Udom Emmanuel and the PDP leadership to do the right thing and maintain the zoning policy that they have preached. He equally noted that failure to give the ticket to candidate from Uyo Federal Constituency, will spell doom for the Party in the State.

“I am speaking for the good people of Uruan who love justice. The time to give justice to Uyo Federal Constituency is now or PDP should forget winning election in Uyo Senatorial District,” he warned.

It was gathered that, rather than allow the senatorial seat remain in Ibiono Ibom/Itu Federal Constituency with Senator Bassey the four local government areas in Uyo Federal Constituency would ensure that an opposition candidate emerge.

It would also be recalled that Obong Bassey Albert has over time not had any respect for zoning as he had contested for governorship even when it was a thorn in the flesh of Effiong Bob when he (Bob) sought to contest for a third term under Etinan Federal Constituency.
