Ahead of the 2019 general election, Ikot Ekpene born businessman and philanthropist, Chief Sunny Ibanga says the hope of former member representing Ikot Ekpene/Obot Akara State Constituency in the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Hon Nsikak Ekong emerging as the representative of the federal constituency will remain what it presently is- a mere dream and a mirage.

The APC chieftain who stated this on Saturday while receiving a former Personal Assistant to former Governor Godswill Akpabio and other PDP members who defected to the APC said, the derogatory remarks against his person by the former lawmaker in a recent radio interview was an insult that has buried Hon Ekong’s political career for good, promising to do all within his power to ensure Ekong never wins the Ikot Ekpene/Obot Akara/Essien Udim Constituency seat come 2019.

Chief Ibanga said despite the insults from Hon Ekong, the fact that he (Chief Sunny Ibanga) made Nsikak Ekong what he is today is not in doubt. He declared that the former lawmaker spent ten years in government yet unable to have an access road to his house, in contrast, Hon Uyo Nathaniel, the SA to the NDDC MD on A and Protocol, has been able to get the federal government through the NDDC to rehabilitate the Old Itu road in just two months in office.

The businessman used the occasion to announce the donation of a tractor to Ikot Ekpene women to help them cultivate their farm and donated cassava stems, yam tubers and bags of fertilisers to aid them in the planting season. He called on the women to register their names and state the location of their farmlands to enable him deploy the tractor to tilt their farms free of charge and promised to replicate his philanthropic gestures of empowering Chapter, Ward Chairmen as well as Ikot Ekpene Women to become self reliant and employers of labour.

He called on Ikot Ekpene people to give their total and unalloyed support to the President Mahammadu Buhari led government and also give total support and solidarity to the APC to win the state come 2019.

Also speaking, the SA to the NDDC Managing Director on Protocol and Security, Hon Uyo Nathaniel said while it is the stock in trade of the PDP to go about boasting in the media, his achievements and actions to Ikot Ekpene people will speak for him come 2019 and welcomed the new defectors into the party.

The event kick started with a cannival float around major streets in Ikot Ekpene and was graced by prominent APC chieftains in the state including a former Commissioner, Dr Chris Ekong.

Receiving the defectors, the APC Senatorial District Chairman, Obong Kufre Inyangette, thanked God for the event, expressing happiness at the growth of the party in the area. He admonished the defectors to go back to their wards and get registered as well as spread the APC gospel of change and progressive development in the units, wards, chapters, federal constituencies, senatorial district and state.

The defectors included Elder Daniel Ekanem, Rt Hon Ntiense Etim, Hon Emmanuel Essiet, Hon Enyeneokpon, Samuel Udoma, Obonganwan Angela Essien Ito, Joy Tuesday Essau, Blessing Lawrence Akpan, Emilia Ifiok Ukpong, Eno Joseph Ekanem and Udeme Umoren, among others.

Speaking on behalf of the defectors, Elder Daniel Ekanem thanked all APC stakeholders and supporters for the support and reception into the party, describing his former party as Peoples Deception Party (PDP), describing the PDP as lacking in honour , integrity and principle.

He confessed that in Ikot Ekpene, he signed the result sheets of all elections held in the 2015 general election but regretted that the party has not fulfilled its promises and thanked God for the grace to resist all the pressure from the PDP who were all out to frustrate his defection as his two years period of grace he gave the PDP has elapsed and his relationship with the PDP stands terminated.

He said his open declaration to dump the PDP for the APC was to end all insinuations about his defection and promised to lead the party to victory come 2019.
