Farewell to comrade Kostas Pateras

Comrade Kostas Pateras, a humble Communist and member of the Communist Party of Greece , has died at the age of 42. “With great sorrow, the KKE bids farewell to cde Kostas Pateras who died so early, at 42 years of age, after a strong battle”, reads a statement by the Press Bureau of the CC of the Communist Party.

Born in London to a Greek-British working class family, Kostas was deeply affected by the militant past of his grandfather, a British communist who fought in the Spanish Civil War through the ranks of the International Brigades.

During his years in Britain Kostas became a member of the Communist Youth and the Communist Party of Britain. He studied English Literature at Oxford University and participated actively in the working class movement through the Youth Committee of UNISON (Public Service Union).

In 2004 he moved to Greece and joined the KKE. We worked as a English language teacher and undertook various tasks within the Party and the labor movement. He had an active role in the Translation Department of the Central Committee and later as a member of the International Relations Section of the CC of the KKE.

“Comrade Kostas was a militant defender of the KKE's revolutionary strategy, being particularly interested in the regroupment of the International Communist Movement, with consistency and decency until the end, despite the difficulties he faced”, the Communist Party's statement points out.

Farewell, Comrade Kostas!
