Mark Cuban the Anti-Trump Prospect Candidate

Sporting News is reporting:

Mark Cuban is among the prospects who have been contacted by a group of Republican insiders appalled at the notion of #Donald Trump representing the party in the 2016 presidential election, the Washington Post reports.

The group of #GOP figures, which includes 2012 presidential nominee Mitt Romney, several consultants and conservative intellectuals, is exploring ways to put an independent candidate in the election against Trump and Democrat #Hillary Clinton.

Cuban said the Republicans who have approached him told him his “bluster and volume, combined with substance and the ability to connect with voters on a more personal basis,” make him a viable candidate.

Cuban added of Trump, “He could come after me all he wanted, and he knows I would put him in his place. All that said, again, I don’t see it happening. There isn’t enough time.”

Topping the group’s wish list are Trump critic Sen. Ben Sasse (R-Neb.) and Ohio Gov. #John Kasich, who withdrew from the race for the GOP nomination earlier this month. Mark Cuban pegged as potential third-party candidate by anti-Trump Republicans | NBA | Sporting News

I am of the opinion that if they even remotely attempt to get a third-party then they must be willing to tank Trump’s election. I understand the value in having another outspoken billionaire, and Mark Cuban is a true billionaire, Trump’s status on that front is still a mystery. However, Mark Cuban running as a third party would be a catastrophe for Republicans.  What this seems to mean is that there are still those in the #NeverTrump camp who are standing firm in their opposition as of now.  I presume that after the scandals of the last week, albeit Trump being the Teflon, make it very difficult for those sane Republicans to support him.  Even though Mark Cuban has abstained from the idea, the fact that he was a a prospect is indicative that Trump still has work trying to gain support from Republicans.

Looking at Mark Cuban all I can do is see what could be, not what is.  It is daunting to actually think he was viable and likely the best counter and that will not pan out.  However, still, the fact that anti-trump crowd are still actively seeking plausible alternatives makes the next few months very important; can Trump get the anti-trump people? This is going to continue to be a fascinating election season.
