Mauricio Pochettino hands Tottenham Premier League title boost with Chelsea result vs Arsenal

[ WATCH TV LIVE ]

Tottenham have been handed a welcome Premier League title boost by their former boss Mauricio Pochettino after Chelsea's result against Arsenal. The Argentine took the reigns at Stamford Bridge in the summer following Frank Lampard's interim spell in charge after Graham Potter was sacked earlier this year.

Following the start made by Ange Postecoglou, in comparison to Pochettino's early days at Chelsea, Spurs fans felt as though they were in dreamland. While Chelsea were beaten by West Ham, Aston Villa and Nottingham Forest in the first few months of the campaign, Spurs are yet to be beaten in Premier League action.

Wins for Liverpool and Manchester City on Saturday saw them go above Spurs in the table with the north Londoners returning to action against Fulham on Monday evening. North London rivals Arsenal also had the chance to push Spurs further down the table with anything but a defeat set to do so.

Tottenham looked set to remain above Mikel Arteta's side with Chelsea storming into a two-goal lead with Cole Palmer and Mykhailo Mudryk on the scoresheet. However, Declan Rice pulled one back for the Gunners after a mistake by Robert Sanchez allowed the 24-year-old to sweep home into an open goal from over 35 yards out.

With the visitors having the momentum, more chances arrived and Leandro Trossard was able to take one of those at the back post from a delicious Bukayo Saka cross. Eddie Nketiah also nearly scored the winner with his effort drifting just past the far post of Sanchez.

Despite Chelsea failing to prevent Arsenal from taking anything from the game, Arsenal only picking up a point will arrive as a boost to Postecoglou and Spurs. Although just over three quarters of the season still needs to be played, Tottenham will certainly be grateful for Pochettino and Chelsea at least stopping the Gunners from getting a number of points ahead.

To reclaim the bragging rights, the Lilywhites need just a point against Fulham, a total they will certainly feel comfortable achieving with three league wins coming at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this season. Chelsea will be pushing for a return to playing Champions League football this season under Pochettino, and three points against his former team will go some way to achieving that with his return coming on Monday, November 6
